Celebrating Women in Travel

March 8, 2021

We are so honored to be surrounded by so many amazing women who have paved the path in the travel industry, to create an exciting and brighter future ahead. As a female-owned company, we celebrate the women of LDPR and all of our lovely clients who we have the opportunity to work with. Here are a few of our favorite travel leading ladies, who have made an impact in the travel industry. Check them out!

Georgene Rada, Vice President of Product Design at Briggs & Riley Travelware:

As Vice President of Product Design at Briggs & Riley, Rada is responsible for all product design and development direction for the company. Her contributions have expanded the product assortment and have contributed to the 100% growth of the company since its acquisition in 2001.

‍A 30 year veteran of the Luggage and Leather Goods industry, Rada brings with her a wealth of experience. Rada believes that understanding end user needs coupled with the needs of the retailer are primary. “Having insight into how lifestyle, as well as social and economic changes can affect product needs is a crucial aspect that keeps us in the forefront of development. We also pride ourselves on being the first to market with patented concepts that provide ease and comfort to the end user. Intelligently designed product is our mantra.”

Ruzwana Bashir, Co-founder + CEO of Peek:

Ruzwana is a British Pakistani-immigrant and the first woman in her family to work, the first woman to join her team as an investor at the Blackstone Group, and one of the few women CEOs to have raised over $50 million for her company (from leading tech investors such as Eric Schmidt and Jack Dorsey). She’s also a survivor of sexual abuse and has fought to help others. Growing up in a poor, conservative Pakistani community in the UK, her break came when she got a scholarship to Oxford University to study Philosophy, Politics and Economics. She became President of the Oxford Union there, a prestigious position held by six British Prime Ministers and one fellow Pakistani, Benazir Bhutto. That kickstarted her career and since then she’s won awards as a trailblazer and entrepreneur, but it’s really her tenacity and persistence in the face of hardships that makes her stand out.

Before COVID, was being called “North America’s next travel unicorn" and hit just over $1 Billion in activities bookings. But by March, bookings fell to zero as lockdowns meant people couldn’t go out for boat tours or cooking classes anymore, and Ruzwana had to lead the company through unprecedented turmoil. It was a true war room scenario - aggressively cutting costs, moving the entire focus to local consumers, implementing COVID safe protocols and helping the thousands of small businesses in the travel industry to stay afloat by getting them access to PPP loans. And with all this, bounced back to have a record-breaking summer, helping millions of people find fun experiences to do close to home with their loved ones.

Isabel Goldsmith Patiño, Founder + CEO of Las Alamandas:

Born in Paris, Isabel Goldsmith-Patiño is the daughter of the late British financier Sir James Goldsmith and the granddaughter of “Bolivian Tin King” Don Antenor Patiño. Goldsmith-Patiño inherited a wild and beautiful tract of land from her grandfather, who passed away before realizing his ambitious development plans to create a large hotel and residences on the site. Inspired by her love of nature and desire to preserve this pristine environment, Ms. Goldsmith-Patiño instead created Las Alamandas, a boutique resort on 2,000 acres that has become one of Mexico’s most exclusive luxury hideaways, popular with famous celebrities, discerning travelers and others seeking unparalleled natural beauty and privacy.

Goldsmith-Patiño recently meticulously oversaw a fabulous transformation to the hotel. Las Alamandas has reopened with a new villa, Casa Bougainvillea, new open-air dining experiences, a gorgeous new La Palapa Beach Club, new wellness offerings, and more. She also has a true commitment to preserving the Mexican coastline, and regularly spearheads various conservation projects.
